Let me introduce myself to new EPMUG members and LCAUG members with whom I have not yet had the pleasure of talking. I am Paul Wasmund's “opposite number”; the El Paso MacTimes editor.
With this issue, MacTimes and El CAUG have combined resources to bring you the Border Connection. Our jointly operated BBS is also called the Border Connection. This also happens to be the name under which EPMUG and LCAUG are allied. Our purpose is not, as has been suggested, to confuse and confound our enemies. Rather, we hope, by enlarging the gene pool, that more members will find reason to contribute articles of interest to both memberships.
If you look over the member lists you may find, as I did, that LCAUG and EPMUG have some rather interesting differences. LCAUG's members seem to lean more toward the sciences, while EPMUG's are inclined to be more involved in the arts. This schism has, in the past, done little to bring our groups closer together. Now, however, this linkage we have named Border Connection (both the “alliance” and the newsletter) has the potential to bring out the best in our members.
It is the hope of both Boards of Directors that you will take advantage of the communications channels that we (as members) have arranged for our respective memberships.
We have an AppleLink account that allows questions about Macintosh and Apple II hardware and software to be E-mailed to the appropriate vendor. Have a complaint? Want an answer? Let us 'link 'em for you. With a user group membership of almost 300, we now pack a lot of clout. We may not be BMUG, but we're feisty SOBs.
Hopefully complementing this communications channel is the Border Connection newsletter. Paul and I are looking for hardware and software reviews, opinion, art, advice, tips; virtually any information that can be legally sent through the interstate mail that will make your use of your Apple computer more enjoyable and productive.
Do not believe that, just because you are a novice, you have nothing to contribute. On the contrary, your experiences and opinions are often the true test of “user-friendliness.”
